"I helped guide the student through writing a persuasive letter to Santa and a fiction story about an elf and his adventures."
"He has a paper due on Thursday, so he spent today's session organizing his thoughts in prewriting preparation. Â He felt unable to come up with a coherent thesis statement at first, but it was clear that he had a solid idea of what he wanted to write from the beginning. Â The issue simply seems to be simplifying the complicated, elaborate thought process into one succinct sentence. Â Ultimately, he left today's session having talked through the themes and motifs of each work in question as well as having created an outline for writing. Â He mentioned again today his challenge in motivating himself to write without the adrenaline of an approaching deadline. Â I asked him if giving himself an arbitrary earlier deadline would help, but he thinks not since he would already know the real due date. Â I will try to brainstorm strategies to motivate completing work early. If he is able to complete his paper early, I offered that he could send it to me to take a look at it before he hands it in."
"We brainstormed ideas for her final presentation (visual aids to relate to the research paper we just finished last week), and we wrote the first half of her cause and effect essay."
