Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight, we worked on using the z table to calculate the probability of certain events occurring in a normal distribution. We also went over calculating percentiles and doing a bit more with probability. We also got into calculating a given x when z=x-mu/sd. We covered a lot of really important material for the student's upcoming exam."
"The student worked hard today on prepping the data and writing all of the background and introductory information for his project. Moving forward, we are finally ready to do the statistical analysis, explain the work, and analyze our results."
"The student and I went over the practice problems for her upcoming statistics midterm exam. We discussed joint, marginal, and conditional probability; binomial probabilities; and z-score probability calculations."
"The student and I reviewed an online assignment that covered statistical terms such as populations, samples, parameters, independent and dependent variables, different sampling methods, measures of central tendency, and basic forms of representing data. After that, we briefly talked about basic probability theory. It looked like he needed some help understanding statistical terminology, and by extension the related concepts. I told him that it might help to draw out the kinds of relationships that different terms represent and to look for key words in the problems he is given to identify what the related concepts are."
"The student has her first exam tomorrow. I think she should do very well. Today, we talked about test taking strategies and approaches to the multiple choice questions. We also worked through a practice exam. She does well with the short response portion. She also gets a note card for the exam, so I think she will do very well."
"We met to work on the student's research paper. In this session we created the graphical displays for her data. We did two line plots and a bar graph. We used Excel to do the graphs. We also did some research on how to perform an ANOVA test. We also spent some time with the writing aspect of her paper. We refined some of the style and content of the paper."
