"The student worked on her homework using trig functions for solving problems. We then looked ahead and discussed and worked on problems covering law of sines and law of cosines. She is doing well with the topics and should do well on her test this week."
"The student made an 89 on her last quiz! We continued on to chapter 10, in which we covered circles and their parts. I taught her how to solve circle problems dealing with tangents and the Pythagorean theorem. These concepts tested her ability to integrate multiple topics into one solution. She practiced these problems on her own as well and was able to do them without my help. I then reviewed algebra with her to reinforce skills I believe she will need to know to move on with geometry."
"In this session, the student and I covered new material: arc lengths/distances, postulates, and circumferences. At the beginning of our session, we covered the two practice problems I left him with from our last session. Since he just took a test on the old material, this session was a head start to demystify some terms that stood out. After some clarification and questions, we began to approach some practice problems given by his teacher in his notes. These questions revolved around using the concept of circumference and a difference in distance traveled during a single rotation. He was very active in his participation, took initiative, and freely asked questions when a "muddy" point may have arisen. We discussed the grade he just received from his test this past Friday, and there was ~15% increase from prior scores. This was a great accomplishment on his part! Our goal, as a team, is to keep up with this upward trend in test scores to achieve his overall goals for the class. Today, I left him with a practice problem that was similar to the material we covered. We plan to discuss the answer upon our next session."
"During this session we focused on chords and secants and the student learned how to solve two intersecting chords and secants in a circle. She provided a worksheet with practice problems from class and learned the three different rules required to solve such problems. After working through a few problems she was able to grasp and remember these rules and was able to solve new problems independently. She had some trouble solving the more complex algebraic equations but was able to quickly catch on after some examples. She overall was energetic during the session and spoke openly about her classes. After the session, she also learned the proof of how intersecting secants are solved using similar triangles (which she felt more comfortable using), and a study technique was explained in which she wrote the rules down herself on the back of her worksheet to better solidify the concepts in her memory. Overall, with some guidance, I believe she learns quickly and can easily improve her grades. Further sessions would include providing her practice test questions based on class material."
"We just went over a few homework problems for geometry today. She didn't have very much material since today was the first day back after spring break, but we worked through a couple of circle problems."
"We went through chapter 10 in preparation for his test tomorrow. We reviewed multiple concepts including area of all polygons, circumference, area of circles, and length of arc calculations. The student was prepared as he had been reviewing and studying. We covered concepts that he was confused on and did some extra practice for every section in general. We completed lots of practice problems, and I left him with a formula sheet to review from. A great first session and I look forward to working with him more going forward!"
