"Worked pre-algebra problems, including powers of 10 multiplication, large number word problems, and decimal multiplication/division. The student reported that he made a perfect score on the math portion of his sixth grade assessment exam, and a nearly perfect score on the reading comprehension/analysis portion."
"We spent a lot of time working on the student's study guide for Algebra 1. He was able to understand and make connections with other topics from the chapters we covered. We worked on factoring three and four term polynomial equations, as well as inequality graphs. We also worked on the formula y=mx+b and how to correctly graph the equation by finding the x-intercept, y-intercept and the slope of the equation. We also clarified his questions with certain methods to use and what would be easier and more understandable."
"Went through the first thirty questions of the math assessment. Reviewed a little of the organic chemistry chapter (reactions and functional groups)."
"We did inequalities and graphing on a number line. The student knew the concepts and was confident in her answers. Once she was shown where she made the mistake, she was sure to go back a check her answer. I set her other problems to practice. After a little guidance, she had no problem attacking questions."
"Today was my first session with the student. We covered concepts in Pre-Algebra, particularly some basic statistics concepts (Mean, Median, Mode, Range, Bias, Random Sampling, Dot Plots, Box-and-Whisker Plots). The student was pleasant to work with. She understands the basic concepts well, and she seems responsive to discussing the concepts when being applied to real-world situations. She seems open to different ways of approaching and understanding the concepts."
"Today was a great day with the student, he remembered to bring all of his work home with him and his book. We went over the past 4 chapters of work to check how he has been doing. Overall, he has done a great job with the work. An issue I have noticed is that he will get the correct answer but the math shown was not always correct. He would sometimes incorrectly divide or subtract a number when he didn't need to. I went over this with him to see how he actually performed the math and explained to him the proper steps of each equation. We also covered some self-evaluation and doubt. More often than not, I noticed he would hesitate to say the correct answer and would constantly second guess himself. However, when given the opportunity to try it without any help he did a great job. We also covered scientific notation, graphing, and solving for single variables. Overall, great session."
