Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met at the library before her final so that she could ask me some questions that she had had, as she did some problems on her own. I think the fact that it was review guided by her, rather than me was a very good thing. She seemed very confident, and she informed me this afternoon that she passed her final!"
"In this session, the student covered the grouping of like terms in polynomials, as well as reviewed the substitution of variables in polynomials. In addition, he reviewed the multiplication and division of variables with exponents. He did very well this session and only struggled with how to deal with adding and subtracting negative terms. His attitude was positive and energetic and he even attempted to make up his own challenge problem in order to demonstrate proficiency. I recommended in this session for him to take home and protect papers that the teacher has given in order to complete and show the teacher progress in his work."
"We went through her online modules for data trends and linear progression. She was able to fully understand between positive, negative, moderate and strong data correlation sets. I also taught her how to find the correlation coefficient using her online graphing calculator and excel. We also reviewed her last quiz in which she scored a 5/5 after our last session. She should score well on the quizzes for the two sections we covered today also. Overall, it was a good meeting."
"Today the student and I covered X and Y intercepts, point slope formula, and slope formula. Remember to isolate y in 2x+y=10; we cannot divide by 2 first. We must either subtract y from both sides or take an even easier route and just subtract both sides by 2x to get y=-2x+10. We cannot alter the 2x until it is no longer being added/subtracted to something else."
"Today the student and I covered slope-intercept form, standard form, find slope between two points, and the point-slope formula. She needed help with slope-intercept form and standard form. She was very focused with the material that was reviewed."
"The student and I went over mean, median, mode, box and whisker plots, and stem and leaf plots for her quiz on Thursday. We also went over categorical data and how to find ratios and determine if data is associated or independent."
