Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student wants to focus on slightly improving his SAT Math score (needs 10 point overall increase on his composite SAT score), so we did relevant practice problems. He is good with Algebra and Geometry, and we well be focusing on probability and setting up word problems in general."
"Today's session with the student primarily focused on mathematics reasoning and science. His skills continue to improve as today we discussed geometry and special right triangles. I look forward to continuing next week."
"Today, we covered the student's test results from last weekend; he is doing best in English and Math, so we will be focusing more on Reading and Science. On the English section, we will be working on 'style' questions more than grammar. I think he responded well to my explanation of what they are looking for on these questions, and how to examine the surrounding sentences for context. In terms of math, he just needs a tiny bit of review. My main goal during the next few weeks will be to help him establish effective Reading strategies so that he can finish the other two sections with increased accuracy and speed."
"We went through some online sample questions for the listening, speaking, and some reading. I suggested a few strategies. I also will bring some study materials for the areas of focus next time."
"The student has become more confident on science sections. We're focusing on completing a full math section so that he can build up stamina."
"The student worked on the intro sections for English, Math, Reading, and Science in the prep book, and then she did some math practice. She needs to review the concepts on the ACT, and we can work on that together. I assigned her online homework."
"The student and I first discussed her personal ideas of what needs improvement for her next ACT test in June, and assessed that grammar rules are the priority. We proceeded through an ACT English practice test, and I had her explain her reasoning for choosing each answer. We implemented test-taking and time management strategies."
"I worked with the student on the Science and Reading sections of his ACT. He has made improvement with both sections. I gave him some pointers for both and assigned him Reading and English practices."
"This was my first session with the student, so we introduced ourselves, he talked about his goals, and discussed the role of these tests and tutoring in his college search process. We then dove into the reading and writing sections of the SAT. I had him narrate for me the logic that he uses to approach the questions, and I introduced an overview of key strategies for the sections. He is starting from a solid starting place, and I am confident that with tutoring and hard work he will achieve and maybe surpass his goals. We'll make a more specific plan after reviewing his diagnostic test next week."
"The student and I completed prep work for the ACT English test. We completed many problems before beginning a test; overall, she did very well (especially since it was her first try). She knows which areas she can improve in, so we focused on those for today's session."
"We went over strategies for the sentence completions; the student is making good progress on those now she's focusing more on the methods I was showing her. We also went over strategies for dual-short passages, and did some math drills."
"Yesterday, the student completed a full section of a science section and only missed about 7 questions which is much better than she expected. We did not time her so next time we will complete a timed section. For homework she is going to work on reading and then next week we will work on Math and more science."
