Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed properties of exponents today to make sure she retained the information from last time. We also practiced the Pythagorean Theorem on a worksheet I brought in. She had to find the lengths of various sides and did a great job. She tends not to look back over her own work to check for errors until I suggest it, so this is something I'd like to keep working on with her."
"Today we discussed some pre-calculus concepts of vectors. We looked at examples and problems associated with distance, velocity and how to use multiple vectors in equations. As she read problems, we worked on her pronunciation."
"We started the session by working through the student's math homework. Currently, the student's class is still on one-step algebraic expressions, and it looks like the student's teacher will be moving on to graphing functions within the week. Overall, the student did well with his homework."
"The student and I spent about half the session on math and about half on science. The student had a new homework packet for math, focusing on statistics/probability, which we completed. Additionally, we practiced basic multiplication facts, focusing on 7's and 9's. For science, we reviewed her class notes on elements and the periodic table and completed her science worksheet (identifying numbers of protons/neutrons/electrons in certain elements). Finally, we very briefly reviewed her Spanish vocabulary words (household rooms/items)."
"The student completed her homework assignment. We reviewed plotting on graphs, finding slopes, and effectively completing word problems. The next sessions will include planning and reviewing for the final. Excellent session."
"The student and I finished up homework 6.4 working on area. The last problems in this section were word problems and extremely visual. We also went over and discussed volume, and different shapes that we will find the volume of. We finished up by working on assignment 19 and going over it. I haven't seen any new scores of grades. I did not leave her with extra practice, she does have the project for this section already so I assume she will be looking over that. No serious concerns from this session, I think she is doing really well."
"Worked on 3 fraction decimal worksheets and student got all 100%. We covered positive and zero exponents and student did excellent work. Next worked with prime factorization, student had excellent work. Also had comparing decimal place value and decomposing fractions. Student did excellent work."
"During this session, we previewed the upcoming math unit and developed an outline with key terms and concepts for review. We also reviewed 4 pages of the grammar book, and developed a plan for redoing grammar worksheets for review within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Lastly, we devised a plan for reviewing vocabulary words, and a plan for studying for a pre high school entrance examination."
"I met with the student on Monday, April 21 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and worked on science, math and geography homework. We spent most of the time working on math homework in order to prepare for an upcoming exam; we spent the bulk of that time practicing a specific math concept that hadn't been taught in class yet. I also assigned the student some practice problems that related to his homework from the website, which seemed to help. When I left, he had some additional work to complete, but overall the session was good."
"We completed all of the problems on the chapter 8 practice test - fractions, decimals, rates of change and simple interest. The student had some trouble switching from percents to simplified fractions, but by the end of the lesson, she was able to do them all on her own."
"We focused on multiplying and dividing decimals, and word problems involving fractions. The student demonstrated an improvement in operations involving decimals, and was confident with all problems involving operations with fractions."
"We worked on solving division & multiplication problems using subtraction & addition. He did a very good job & seemed to grasp the concepts."
