Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has physics as well as geometry homework that we needed to work on today. She is now using multiple equations to calculate distance, acceleration, velocity and time when a few are given and others are unknown. We practiced problems as well as worked on some homework. We worked on some geometry and the student is now working on angles and complementary as well as supplementary angles. She seems to understand physics better than geometry and we worked on concepts for geometry a little more."
"In this session electric fields and electrical potential was covered. We worked through a worksheet I had made up to review concepts and apply the given formulas to actual practice problems. The homework was also worked through and a definite improvement was seen in his grade. It is still alarming that the professor of the class has not been using the class time to work through practice problems but the tutoring sessions have been providing the much needed practice."
"Covered block diagrams of blocks on inclines. Focused more on problems involving objects not in equilibrium, meaning that there is a net force acting on the system. Additionally, we covered more subject matter related to frictional force. The student has a test on Thursday that I believe he is well prepared for due to his steady recall of forces acting on objects in numerous situations."
"We covered acceleration and went over some problems that she had for her previous homework. We are currently at an easier section for physics and the student is still doing very well. I would advise her to perhaps increase the frequency of tutoring sessions during the later part of the year for physics class."
"The student and I worked on plotting extension vs force to find Hooke's law constant for springs. We then worked on solving projectile motion problems."
"We worked on the absolute value project for Algebra. We went ahead and reviewed systems of equations for algebra. For physics we reviewed forces and Newton's laws. Homework was assigned for algebra and notes were given for physics."
"The student and I went reviewed Electromagnetic waves and color in order for his section two physics exam. Topics covered and those included in his study guide were the electromagnetic spectrum (radio waves, visible light, ultraviolet ray, etc.), energetics/velocity equations for waves, color absorption and reflection, and color blending. I'm hoping to download the E-text so that we can stay on top of his homework assignments if he needs additional help."
"The student and I continued reviewing for her upcoming test over Chapter 1-4, including relative motion, relative velocity, one dimensional and two dimensional motion, acceleration, constant acceleration equations, range, maximum height achieved."
"This was my first session with this student. We reviewed the content she covered in her Physics class so far and the areas that she was struggling with. She had her first test today so spending time on the specific class material and ways to organize, approach, and apply this material was imperative. The two units we covered were the historical background of physics, central scientists and linear Newtonian mechanics, specifically velocity and acceleration."
"Together we went through some of the students practice problems. He has now moved on to Forces. The student had a little trouble setting the equations up correctly but once he did he had no problems solving the equations. A little practice and studying will do him wonders. The student has a test tomorrow and I think he will do well."
"Today we met for the first time. We went over polar and rectangular coordinates, and then we applied them to vectors. Eventually she understood that doing math with right triangles is just working with right triangles."
"We worked on forces and how to apply concepts to word problems. There were no particular areas of concern for the student. She only wanted to practice problems in preparation for her test tomorrow. I left the student with some questions for practice. Her first test since we started our sessions is tomorrow."
