Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Topics covered included volume and surface area of cylinders, prisms, and spheres, as well as determining percentage increases in areas given increases in side components. This session was calculation heavy, but the student was lucid and focused enough to work through them."
"For this session, we went through the student's online review for his exam. The questions included the use of corresponding, alternative interior, exterior angles in respect to triangles, midpoint, and distance. He seemed to have a good understanding of the material, and was advised to continue doing problems once I left."
"Today we reviewed homework and her chapter reading. The student had a practice coming up, and so time was a factor, but we made good progress in her definitional understandings. We are starting to learn that a majority of her issues involve reconciling visual concepts into more general understandings and definitions. We will continue towards this end."
"We covered three sections of notes mostly on line segments and distance. He seemed to struggle the most with understanding and remembering formulas. I left him with the practice of showing his work when using formulas instead of relying on the calculator."
"Covered Chapter 2: Geometric Reasoning; Sect. 2.3 Worksheet; Sect. 2.4: Biconditional Statements; Sect. 3.3: Proving Lines Parallel; Did Sect. 3.3 problems # 13, 15, 17, 19, 22, 31, 33; Sect. 3.4: Perpendicular Lines; Sect. 3.5: Slopes of Lines"
"Continued working with expanding quadratic equations, using imaginary numbers, and doing the perimeter/area of geometric shapes. She did not do well on her last quiz. She seems more confident in doing the skills from the quiz, and doing them quicker. The main thing she seems to struggle with is the time and in trying to be quick she overlooks the specifics of the problem (such as when two polynomials are being added it will be seen as multiplied)."
"We worked on his review for his test coming up. The review covered angles, their relationships and how to solve for angles based on those relationships. In general, he seems comfortable with the material. There are just a few things that we still need to work on though (i.e. when the problem involves shapes instead of just parallel lines and transversals)."
"The student had a test recently and she will be trying to get her test to bring home so that we can sit down and work on the problems that she missed to make sure she understands the materials that she got incorrect. We also worked on the homework she had for the new unit over triangles."
"We looked over the student's homework that he had already finished. We then looked at upcoming topics for the week. We worked through some proof problems with topics from current sections and previous sections."
"Today we continued to cover basic proofs, specifically the transitive property, vertical angle theorem, segment and angle addition, and midpoints and angle bisectors. As opposed to last time, the student seemed to pick up on some of the properties towards the end of the session. He generally knows the concepts of each property.
I'm happy with his progress; he was improving by the end of the session."

"We reviewed 3.6 and covered 3.7. The student mentioned she took a quiz. We made sure that she learned/understood material for the upcoming test. She caught on really fast with the equations and I assigned her practice problems in this section for more practice."
"We went over practice problems and proofs in order to make sure she was grasping both the concrete and abstract concepts associated with the Geometry. She continues to be very fast and skilled at solving the Algebra components of problems. I have also seen a lot of improvement in her ability to make connections between different definitions and Theorems in Geometry to draw conclusions about figures."
