Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student needed help with polar coordinates and reviewing trigonometric identities today. We went over identities, laws of sine and cosines, and did tons and tons of practice problems. Her biggest struggle is just remembering all of the different formulas involved. We will continue to review these."
"The pupil worked on homework from Chapter 3 that covered exponential functions and logarithmic functions. We first reviewed the rules of logarithms, converting from exponential to logarithmic form. Then she finished a homework worksheet that put into practice the rules of logarithms. When she was finished with the worksheet, she started working ahead on the homework involving graphing logarithmic functions. She expressed having good understanding of the material and showed no trouble setting up and solving problems."
"The student has a test on the laws of sines and cosines. We worked on the review packet together, as she had to decide whether to use the law of sines or the law of cosines to solve the problem. While she eventually found the answer, we tried working so that she could get to the answer faster by solving only for necessary parts of the triangle. She finished the required problems on the review sheet."
"We covered converting rectangular coordinates to polar coordinates, converting polar coordinates back into rectangular coordinates, and determining the graph of a function by using the equation. The student was very focused and was very interactive with the questions and topics that were covered in the session."
"In today's session, we went over topics including vectors, the law of sines, law of cosines, and area of a triangle. The student didn't really struggle with any of the topics; he's a very strong math student and typically grasps the concepts quickly once he knows which formulas to use and when to use them. Of the topics we covered, he did really well with the law of sines and finding the area of a triangle. The only difficulty I noticed was when a problem gave him a few values of the triangle, he was occasionally unsure of which law to use. Once we went over a few more problems, he did just fine. As usual, I left him with a few formulas and a few shortcuts to help him along the way."
"The concepts covered specifically were finding the determinant of a matrix, finding solutions to systems of equations using Cramer's rule. The student struggled the most with finding the determinant of matrix using Cramer's rule. The strategy I used was to break the concepts down into a step by step process, and reteach him about Cramer's rule and finding the determinant of a matrix. The student was very confident during the entire online session and shows a positive attitude."
