Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I studied for his upcoming math quiz on time, distance, and speed. He has a very good understanding on the material and just needed to review how to graph distance vs time in order to calculate speed. He is a voracious learner and even asked me to tell him about velocity and acceleration which are concepts well above and beyond what will be covered on his quiz. He should be well prepared for his quiz."
"The student and I worked on determining the "n"th term in geometric sequences yesterday. I helped him to identify what the terms in the equation meant, and showed him a good way to keep track of all the different variables he knew, and the variable he was trying to solve for. He has a seemingly good understanding plugging into formulas. He told me that they had a pretest today and will have the regular test on Friday, and he felt that with the extra review on the pretest that he would do well. He also informed me that he did well on his physics exam."
"We reviewed what work she had with her. Many topics she understands but just needs minor amounts of direction and reteaching for her to completely understand the topic. Her last topic, bivariate data problems, was covered quickly."
"The student and I went over more quadratic equations. The last few times we've looked at this topic we've only analyzed it in standard form. We spent this session analyzing the vertex form which allowed her to graph the functions more easily. She struggled at the beginning with some of the patterns recognition but by the end of the session she was moving through problems quickly and effectively. This is one topic I think she was starting to feel more comfortable with."
"We covered exponents. We also reviewed how and when to add and multiply the exponent values. The student needed help with dealing with the numbers that multiply the variable versus the exponent of the variable. His attitude toward the material was excellent. He needs to continue practicing solving problems that add, subtract, multiply and divide variables and numbers with exponents."
"The student had already finished the majority of his homework at school. Today, he finished the two remaining homework problems and then moved ahead to the math boxes for the next chapter. There were some new concepts here, like exponents and finding percents of a whole. The student picked these up well. He was definitely trying to focus and we got through two extra workbook pages."
