Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met to start working on her review packet. She has a pretty solid grasp on the economics portion of Brief Calculus, and generally can finish problems once she knows how to start them. We will be concentrating on integration and differentiation."
"Today we went over washers and disks, and the student learned about the integration of area under the curve. He then answered problems from his homework and from the review packet for his upcoming test."
"We reviewed derivatives and anti-derivatives of trigonometric functions and word problems from the student handout. The student learned several integration techniques."
"The student and I continued to work problems for his coming test on Tuesday, including material on limits, derivatives (specifically power rule!), and application problems (i.e., marginal profit). He started making a "cheat sheet" for the test, which is a great idea and will serve him well if it helps him to remember all of the material! I would continue to encourage him to be careful with his calculations, as he has a slight tendency to make mistakes with calculations."
"This was our first session where we transitioned from algebra to calculus. We started with a review of composite functions. The student was very interested in this portion, as it was directly applicable to his programming course. We discussed these similarities before discussing limits. We worked together on a sampling of different problems to give him the tools to complete his problem set, which we will review on Monday."
"Today, we looked through related rates problems, which most students find pretty tricky at the start. The student did a good job of setting up most of the problems,. She'll need more practice with these problems to get really good at them, but that's to be expected. We will go over these next session. We'll meet again this Tuesday."
