Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the student's homework which covered breaking down an algebraic equation. The remainder of the session was focused on writing an essay about Islam and its contributions to society."
"I worked with the student on a writing exercise. I created a word game to help her discern context by giving her a large group of words and asking her to sort them into two subject areas ("rabbit" and "football game"). If she had a word she didn't know, she typed it into the image search engine to help he understand it (her mother suggested this technique last time and it seems to work). Then we picked one group of words, and further grouped them into more focused subjects that she could write about. She has to use at least 3/4 of the words in writing a little story paragraph about her pet rabbit, which she did complete with my help. Basically, I had to ask her to talk about each sentence. Then I repeated back to her a more condensed version of what she said. Then she would write something that was along the lines of what I repeated back to her. Her mother said that she was unconcerned with her spelling. I left the second group of words (football) and a framework so she could complete it later on that week, possibly with her mom or dad's help."
"The student finished one additional essay -- and began another. We also looked at a project for his World Cultures class, and quickly analyzed a Shelly poem."
