Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the difference between disjoint and non-disjoint events, and how to use the addition rule when events are disjoint. We also talked about independence vs. dependence, and how disjoint events can never be independent. This was one of our more difficult sessions and we'll make sure to review the material before her final exam."
"Today, the student and I met to focus on preparing him for his midterm exam this week. According to his teacher's website, it will be split into two parts. We focused on review chapters 1-3 today and will review 4-6 on Tuesday or Wednesday. He struggled with these early sessions before I began tutoring him. The concepts seemed to come more easily to him now because has really been applying that early knowledge in all of the subsequent chapters. We focused today on frequency distributions, being able to calculate them, organize the necessary data, and graphing them. I wrote out a loose list of steps to help him know how to solve the basic problem, and he is planning on using them in practice and hopefully memorizing them for the test. We will meet again, either on Tuesday or Wednesday, to review for the second part of his midterm."
"In preparation for an upcoming exam we reviewed old practice exams. Problems involved sample size, confidence interval calculations, and hypothesis testing. We discussed the basic concepts underlying the various computations. The student seems to be understanding the material because she could work a couple of similar problems by herself."
"The student and I went over a practice problem in multiple regression today. She answered most of it correctly and was also able to interpret the results of her statistical analysis. She only needed help in identifying possible confounding variables and how regression analyses can account for their effects on the response."
"I was able to answer all of the student's questions. We went over some screen shots of her homework problems and then went through some problems from the database. We will meet again on Wednesday night."
"The student has a midterm coming up on expected value, standard error of samples, normal probability calculations and confidence intervals. We spent the two hours going over practice problems from her suggested homework set. She has a good grasp on calculating expected value and standard error. She did need some practice with identifying normal calculation problems. She did well with calculating confidence intervals. We just had to talk about using the appropriate Z for the given confidence level. We are halfway through the homework set. We will continue our journey on Wednesday. Her midterm is Thursday."
