Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed the vocabulary and sentences from the day before. We used songs to practice new vocabulary. We then practiced vocabulary related to school. We also completed a couple of lessons from her language learning app."
"We went over how to prove if triangles are or are not congruent. The student struggled at first with understanding the meaning of a bisector, midpoint, or reflexive property, but we went over ways to help him remember what they mean (bi= 2 sect=cut, bisector cuts a line into 2 parts). We also went over the concept that if 2 triangles are congruent, so are all of their corresponding parts. So if we know 2 triangles are congruent, then we can prove all other parts of them are to each other."
"Today, the student and I returned shortly to "llamarse" and "hablar" before going into Thanksgiving vocabulary. The verbs are difficult for her to remember, so we'll spend time on making conjugation more accessible in future lessons. Still, we focused most of our time on learning Spanish words for the most common iconography of Thanksgiving. We practiced them on flashcards, and I have asked her to have the flashcards memorized by next Tuesday."
"We reviewed the conditional, so we played picking a verb card and gave examples using that verb in the correct tense. When one of us had a mistake we had to pick a card with a punishment, like cards with extra activities such as reading a book page in Spanish or say a tongue twister. The student did a great job and had fun! He does especially well with the verbs, especially when writing."
"Today, we worked on integrating a lot of the information that the students have learned so far by learning a song, "Corre." They are doing much better on the verb vocabulary and were able to use some of what they learned to better understand the song. Additionally, we went over some direct object pronouns (me and te), and I introduced them to some of the differences in word order. They are doing well and should continue practicing. We will review many of these concepts next week."
"We reviewed the preterite versus imperfect tenses in Spanish. The student came up with stories in the past using the two tenses. We went over the future tense, its usage and the irregular verbs. We went over song lyrics containing verbs in the future tense. We covered the verb "decir" in the preterite tense, and the student practiced making sentences using this verb. The student is progressing well in speech and comprehension of the language."
