Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This morning I had both boys start off with the same activity. Since we meet just after their breakfast time, I found it was a good transition to work time to have them draw each item they ate for breakfast so that we could then look through a lesson on Spanish breakfast words. I had them label what each item was in Spanish after we reviewed all of the words on a handout I printed beforehand. With Student A, the next thing we worked through was a cultural learning activity involving the Spanish conquistadors. We looked at a map of the respective territories each one conquered in the 16th century, and discussed what this meant in broad historical terms. With Student B, I went into a bit more detail concerning place names and various other explorers before we finished up with a review of the verb gustar and verbs that behave the same way it does. I am working on typing up a comprehensive review of all we have covered so far so the parents can have that for their personal reference."
"The student and I spent this session going in depth with the imperative/ command tense, pronoun placement, and verb conjugation with positive regular commands and positive irregular commands in both the "tu" form and the "ud." form. We practiced translation with various verbs and pronouns using this information."
"We reviewed the verb vocabulary that we had gone over before, especially focusing on being able to say the verb. We then worked on using the construction ir + a + verb to talk about the future. We also learned some time expressions to use in these sentences."
"Concepts covered- irregular verb conjugation in present tense (hacer, oir, poner, salir, trae), stem changing verbs (e-> ie, o->ue, e->i), reflexive verbs, and reflexive pronouns. Strategies given included ways to group verbs to help with memorizing their irregularities. Overall, the student is improving."
"The student did well as we mainly reviewed and practiced with multiple of his worksheets on Spanish vocabulary he will be tested on soon. He knows these well, as he got all of them correct when I quizzed him in the end. He is in good shape for his upcoming test."
"The student and I practiced Spanish conversational skills. She took note of job-specific vocabulary. She is speaking much better already, and seems more comfortable. She still struggles with conjugating verbs as she is speaking, but she is able to make a quick adjustment and carry on with what she was saying."
