Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did a sample essay. Her writing is good but she has a problem with run on sentences. She did a sample reading section while her computer was restarting but we did not get a chance to review the answers yet. Tomorrow we will start with that and then cover more topics regarding math."
"The student and I worked on some Math covered in her book she purchased to help her study for the SAT. She believes this to be her weakest area and is hoping to achieve a decent score in a few weeks on the SAT."
"We covered a sample essay the student wrote, and she has another essay to work on tomorrow. In particular we are working on getting a strong introduction and topic sentences for the paragraph. After that, we ran through some reading sections she had done. These have improved- she only missed a few, and they concentrate on diagnosing the meaning of a word within the context of a passage. Finally we did math and writing, in which both have improved."
"The student and I went through a second revision of his essay. We spent the remaining hour working on critical reading and math, and more generally, how to be strategic when taking the test."
"This was our first session, so we concentrated on evaluating everyone's strengths and weaknesses. We looked at the Critical Reading diagnostics first, and went through some general structure and content for the test."
"Today the student and I worked on the Reading and Science sections of the test. I am noticing significant improvement. She is still working on getting in the habit of using the testing tricks. In science we worked on testing tricks and I saw a near immediate improvement. I am very impressed with her dedication and progress so far!"
"For this lesson, the student and I first went over the questions on the diagnostic test she had completed. We covered how to approach problems dealing with circles, slopes of lines, parallel and perpendicular lines, areas of shapes, surface areas of shapes, and volumes of shapes. For the rest of the time, we worked through problems on a practice Math section."
"This was our last session together so we went through each topic on the biology topic list and revisited them making sure that she knew the key points. She has been doing practice tests and problems which we have gone over multiple times. I think she is ready for her test this coming week"
"We did a few science passages which the student did well on. We also did a reading passage and a few math problems."
"The student and I reviewed the practice test he'd taken. We went over techniques in approaching vague questions, test anxiety methodology, and other strategies as appropriate."
"We focused on her geometry proofs material for her test tomorrow, instead of focusing on test math, however, this will be applicable to both. She understands things better when she is able to visualize it."
"The student worked on his pre-calculus homework, and used law of cosines and triangle identities to solve the problems. He was able to work through almost all of the problems. He also practiced the reading, English, and science sections of the test, and answered more than 95% of the questions correctly."
