Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we reviewed concepts from the review packets from quiz 5,6,7, and 8. We applied these concepts to review sheets."
"The student and I reviewed for her biology final exam tomorrow. Then we looked over her geometry final exam review packet."
"We continued to review practice tests and test taking strategy. Topics included: genetics, cellular respiration, photosynthesis and embryology as well as taxonomy."
"We went through the immune system. Did the chapter. He is a quick pick up so we went through it all pretty well."
"Went over summary for upcoming final exam. Covered many topics but focused on genetic topics that he had previously had trouble with."
"Covered mainly cellular respiration and some photosynthesis. Completed online practice test with discussion of correct and wrong answers as well as test strategies."
"During this session, I reviewed biochemistry with the student. I was able to review the basic concepts about bonding, compound polarity and pH. I quizzed him on our previous session to solidify his knowledge and ensure he retained the information. For his algebra class, we began work on solving equations. He makes mistakes at times but seems to know the fundamental concepts."
"The student spent the session today writing his entire biology semester research paper. He had previously found the research he needed to do the experiment and write a paper on the effects of speech speed and listening comprehension. Over the past week, he had his extended family read a sports passage he had selected and he recorded the speed at which they spoke and the number of errors they made. He entered the information in the data table in the paper and today he completed the research paper. Over our time today, he wrote the table of contents, abstract, acknowledgements, hypothesis, statement of purpose, variables section, background research and importance section, and conclusion. Additionally, he corrected his data table and analyzed the results in both word and graphical form. After he finished writing the paper, we read the paper aloud for grammatical errors and ensured he had followed all of the formatting rules including page numbers, spacing, margins, and font type."
"The student reviewed concepts of photosynthesis. She watched a short documentary found on a website, as well as read an informative worksheet in reference of the subject. Based on the short video and read she answered short questions for comprehension as her homework assignment. She practiced adding fractions with unlike denominators that included variables as well as simplification of the sum. Finally, she researched the thyroid for a PE write up. She was encouraged to outline her specific topics of interest and to record her sources found online."
"We reviewed and made a concept map of photosynthesis together. I brought a concept map for studying homeostasis."
"The major part of this session was to begin to get the student caught up for his biology class. In this session we reviewed the principles of life/living things, cell theory and the components like organelles and basic functions of a cell (homeostasis, etc.). We went through the online material and discussed his mistakes on past review quizzes. He appeared to understand the functions better when we came up with analogies for each of the organelles or when comparing requirements to real life examples."
"We reviewed biochemical molecules and principles including carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, and nucleic acids. We reviewed basic chemistry and structures."
