Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We were able to finish the chapter 2 pretest. The student was able to quickly pick up on the concept of algebra being the inverse operations of arithmetic. She is ahead of schedule so we will plan on working on review for her mid-unit exam."
"The student and I went over all of the past quizzes and exams to review for her final test. We focused on the domain and range of graphs. I showed her how to find the domain and range for continuous functions. We went over piecewise functions and quadratic equations. She got a B on her last quiz, so improvement was observed."
"The student was working on adding and subtracting rational functions by finding the lowest common denominator and then simplifying. He also worked on simplifying complex fractions. He completed all of his assignment, and then I reviewed the earlier part of the chapter on direct variation, inverse variation, and joint variation, which he wanted to clarify for his test sometime this week. He did a great job."
"Today the student worked on the last two homework assignments he has. The first assignment covered the slope and graphs of a line. He has found his rhythm in some of the problem as he was able to figure out the process needed to get the answers. There were a few problems where he had difficulty remembering the solution process. We need to continue working on this and find a way to help him discover by himself how to solve problems. He responds very well when I write down the process or draw pictures (as oppose to me speaking to him about the solution). The second assignment focuses on graphing inequalities. He did not get a chance to finish this assignment but he is off to a good start. He still needs to memorize the solution process but I am confident he will get it down."
"The student and I worked on word problems with two variables and two equations, that needed substitution to solve. He did not seem to struggle much. I am not sure where he stands at the moment seeing as this is the first session. He seemed very much to know what he was doing. At the end of the session, we just made sure we were meeting again."
"The student and I reviewed his homework which entailed area of shapes as well as some more problems in finding the area of shapes. For shapes like the square he grasped the concept very quickly but he first struggled in understanding the area of uncommon shapes because he tried to follow the steps of what was done in previously solved problems. However, I showed him a way to visualize the shapes and pick it apart one by one and he flourished from there. He also worked on some problems in evaluating polynomials again, which he seems to have a completely understanding of now. In conclusion, he is definitely improving."
