Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over converting logarithmic equations to exponential equations. We were able to go over some of the deeper concepts behind this which helped him tackle all of the problems. We also went over the change of base formula and applied it to a few problems."
"We started by going over the student's last homework assignment which covered using exponential decay functions. She was a bit confused at first, but after talking through the steps she was consistently working the problems through correctly on her own and was able to explain back to me how she was solving them. We then started going over her review assignment for her test on Wednesday. We covered almost all of it and she did well with the majority of questions. We did stop and review a few topics as we went."
"Today we continued working with percents. We worked with setting up equations for word problems. The student had some difficulty determining how to set up the equations until we used the expression x/100 = is/of."
"We met for the last time tonight. The student was quite enthusiastic and we were able to get through many of the problems he sent. The methods of solving are more important than the answers themselves. He seems in pretty good shape for his upcoming competition."
"Tonight, the student completed both the paper homework sheet and the computer based work. This week, it seems to be focusing on lines, simple algebraic equations, numbers, and the distributive properties. I left some worksheets behind for him to attempt. During the next session, we will focus on those sheets as well as practice multiplication and division. Finally, we are going to have a quiz on fractions as we have not had one in a while."
"We spent this session covering the AP statistics exam material (chapters 18-22) as well as the new material the student covered in class (chapter 23). The review covered the basics of the central limit theorem and using the various formulas to identify confidence intervals as well as Z scores and P values. The new material discussed the situations in which we utilize the t test and how to calculate and interpret a t score. I feel confident that he is doing well in class and will do exceptionally well on his upcoming exam."
