Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's past few homework assignments involving z-scores, areas under the curve, and percentiles. I created practice problems like the ones her professor gave her."
"The student and I reviewed all of the applicable chapters for his test on Thursday. We reviewed the "Formula Sheet" and practiced examples using the various formulas."
"Go over correlation function in SPSS. Explain what is a correlation. The student is better in working in SPSS."
"We covered a variety of problems dealing with all four math comparisons together, and also started practice with an online game, that is a mix of Pac-man and mental math. I left the student an assignment."
"This first session today began with "Quadratic Equations & Complex Numbers." The concept of simplifying the square root of a negative integer was found using the imaginary term "i," which equals the Sq. Root of (-1). He was reminded the i^2 = -1. Hence, the sq. root of -16 = 4i. The student's first quiz will be this Tuesday."
"Today mainly focused on trigonometric graphs and their transformations. We generalized the function given the graph as well as found the graph given the function. We also looked at equivalent cosine and sine expressions. I encouraged the student to utilize the unit circle more often, as much can be found using the circle instead of memorization. After a few examples, it was becoming more and more fluid to identify the different features of a graph and translate them to a function. There was clear progress in understanding what steps are required from initially looking at a problem."
