Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered essay writing, vocabulary and verbal reasoning, and the types of statistics questions the student has problems with. The biggest area for improvement for the student is with the writing portion and formulating a concise and clear argument. There was a good deal of progress concerning his writing structure over the course of the session, and the writing portion was the major focus. For next session, he's going to go through another test and bring in the types of questions that give him trouble, and I'm going to look for challenging vocab/reading comprehension questions."
"This was my final meeting with the student before her exam tomorrow. We started off by analyzing and grading two of her essays that she had written before our session. We then continued on to two quantitative reasoning problem sets to prepare her. Once these sections were completed, we were able to view our performance on the entire practice exam. She achieved a score of 167 on the verbal section, and 161 on the quantitative section. It is worth noting that a few questions were accidentally skipped on the quantitative section, so the true score should be a bit higher. After reviewing the questions she missed, we returned to discussing general approaches to essays. In addition, we reviewed some common sample topics from the official GRE website. Before signing off, she and I discussed the format of logistics of taking the actual test. All in all, she seems to be a bright student, and I'm optimistic that she'll perform well on the exam."
"Today, the student and I reviewed her last practice test, modeling the correct approach(es) to the problems she had, then went through and did a great deal of practice on the Inequalities portion of the assessment. For our next session, she will complete a diagnostic practice test."
