Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had a test on Friday, so we met on Wednesday to make sure she was comfortable with the material. Her teacher had given them the equations that use the geometric mean to relate to calculations of the altitude of a right triangle. I explained that there were two equations and not three, and after we went through many examples together, she definitely felt more comfortable."
"Covered and practiced utilizing the area of all polygons formula A= 1/2(ap) along with using diameter to calculate area and other aspects of a circle. The student just needed more practice with the concepts that she had recently learned in class. She was attentive and alert throughout the entire hour and a half. We went through her class notes one section at a time and did several problems practicing each topic. The student scored a 72% on her last exam -- an entire grade improvement over the 60% average of her test before we started working together!"
"Today, the student and I covered some topics in circle geometry. We started with finding the measures of various arcs of circles including some geography word problems. After working through these, we moved on to cover theorems and corollaries of inscribed angles. The student and I spent most of our time working through C level word problems, focusing on hashing out the details and going through every possibility to work through the proofs. She was open to all the different ways of thinking about the problems, and seemed to really get the hang of it by the end of the session."
"The student and I worked on a review of algebra I. He is struggling in geometry mostly for his multiple gaps of knowledge from algebra I. So we are working on algebra to catch him up in geometry. We worked on a review package to practice different skills he has forgotten. We worked in the first two chapters. We will meet next Friday for the next two chapters."
"This was a great first session. The student is smart and he knows most of his material pretty well. We went over a small topic in geometry that he had a bit trouble with and then started reviewing algebra from the beginning to prepare him for a test he wants to take."
"We focused heavily on the student's upcoming physical science test and review of her new math topics. The physical science test includes material on waves, refraction, diffraction, reflection, speed of light through various mediums, as well as much vocabulary. Math included the use of radicals and exponents, numbers and variables. The student needs to work on finding the roots of numbers using anything larger than a square root. Her physical science was fine."
