"I worked with the student on both statistics and microeconomics for two hours on Monday. With microeconomics, we again reviewed calculation of elasticities given a utility function and budget constraints, and also discussed calculation of quantity and price under monopoly/price discrimination. For statistics, we discussed calculating confidence intervals for sample proportions/means, hypothesis testing, using Z tables to calculate the aforementioned confidence intervals, and using the empirical rule (68-95-99.7% of values are within 1, 2, and 3 standard deviations, respectively) to construct an interval within which we could reasonably expect to find the values of a given population."
"This session we reviewed for the student's test on Wednesday which will be on tests of statistical significance namely t-tests and z-tests. Client is still having difficulties deciding what test to use on certain problems but seemed to remember as we continued reviewing. No grades. Assigned student to look at numerical thresholds of various test types. No concerns about this session"
"Went to book store to obtain promised stat book for student. Then met with student and reviewed work assignments. Student doing well despite his concerns of not understanding. He understands his mistakes but I have detected some stress which is overcoming him. Worked on mind control techniques to alleviate stress. Also worked on polling problems. Gave him assignments to control his mind and to practice for exam."
"We went over confidence intervals and Z testing. She had some trouble identifying certain information in the beginning, but quickly improved as the session continued. By the end of the session she was able to work through problems with little assistance. No additional practice was assigned to her."
