"Today we worked on catching him up in his math homework. The main focus of the homework was matrices. The first problem set asked for the product of two matrices. The next problem set focused on finding the determinate and the inverse of a matrix. The student initially had difficulty finding the determinate of a 33 matrix. After a couple problems he was able to complete them easily. He needs to be careful with signs."
"Today we prepared for the student's upcoming quiz by studying all of section 9.2, which covered arithmetic sequences and how to work with the various forms they could be presented in and translate between those forms, and finally working with partial sums of those sequences. She is ready for her quiz and we are planning on meeting this Wednesday."
"We spent the session working on practice math problems from the ACT, particularly on ratios and proportions. The student did well overall and knew how to do the majority of problems. However, many times he would pick a longer way to solve a problem rather than seeing a much faster shortcut. I tried to help him see some of the shortcuts to look out for and explained how even saving a few seconds per problem adds up over the course of a sixty-question test. I left him with a practice test to work on over the coming week that we will look through during our next session."
"We covered parametric equations/ parameterization, and began discussing polar coordinates. We set up a plan for delving further into polar coordinates and their uses/ manipulations in the next tutoring session."
"We reviewed properties of polynomials and their graphs and solving polynomial word problems. We went over rational functions again and the student was better able to determine the asymptotes. We also we over exponential functions."
"This was our first session so I wanted to evaluate our starting point. The student had the summer assignment for AP Calculus BC which was very helpful. Since she had already attempted a number of problems, she just asked specific questions on what she didn't yet know. After we went through the assignment, I found the syllabus for pre-calculus at her school. We were able to see the specific topics that she has to know so we could make a plan for our subsequent sessions. What's great is that she already knows a number of these topics, and there are few big topics that we still need to address. It seems to me that she will definitely be well prepared for her test by the end of our sessions."
