Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on unit conversions from the various units for energy. She converted kWh, ergs, calories, Calories, Btus, foot pounds, and electron Volts to Joules, doing dimensional analysis for several of the units. She also looked at which industries/fields use each specific unit."
"The student did very well on the linear addition test. In this session we did the plug-in problems assigned by his teacher regarding Newton's second Law which were very easy after he got comfortable with F=M*A equation. Consequently, I designed some problems of my own that brought in air resistance for falling objects and required more steps. He eventually got the hang of it and we worked through the majority of the problems at the end of the chapter. I think once he feels comfortable with drawing force diagrams he will do very well in this unit."
"During our session, the student and I reviewed various concepts of electrical circuits, which is the topic currently being covered in her physics class. We began by talking about charging and discharging capacitors, along with the direction of current flow when the capacitor is subjected to either phenomenon. We discussed how the direction of current changes when a capacitor is discharging after being charged, and also how the amount of batteries included in a circuit proportionally affects the voltage across the conducting plates of a capacitor. She asked very good questions about concepts she didn't understand and by the end of the session she seemed to understand many of these concepts much better."
"The student is continuing to review for the exam, and had a test on energy and work. She did better with this topic than the kinematics and forces we dealt with last time. She runs into some trouble with complex equation analysis and graph questions that require multiple steps."
"The student had some test corrections to do, and we worked on those, covering topics of electric fields and forces between charges. This is her last session, as her physics final is tomorrow."
"The student and I had a good session. His algebra final is coming up in a couple of days so we worked through material for that. We focused on the review packet that his teacher had given out. I tried to focus on not only understanding the material, but also trying to build a better problem solving flow to his work. Overall he is doing better with the material. I gave him several materials to review in order to help him study more for the test. Good luck, and have a great summer!"
