Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I re-started for second semester of geometry. This semester should be much easier. Today we went over two different assessments and we did a small project together. Most of the material was busy-work and was only on slope and distance formula. For the project we made a scale map of a gymnastics arena."
"The student and I covered the concept of chords: line segments inside a circle that do no necessarily travel through the circle's center. We briefly discussed the difference between chords and secants, and we also talked about tangent lines. We reviewed the equation of a circle and how to establish it given certain initial conditions (diameter, radius, center point, points on the outside, etc.)."
"We continued our work on geometric shifts. The focus was on rotations around a point that isn't the origin, reflection across a line determined by a simple function, and dilation about the origin. The student is getting the hang of rotations, and once we did work with a mirror, reflections made a lot more sense to him."
"We reviewed for the student's final on Friday, covering questions in the chapter tests that the student was confused about. She seemed to remember most of what we covered together over the course of our sessions. She felt prepared for her exam and just had to sit down and really memorize the formulas and theorems."
"We conducted a review of geometry concepts that dealt with secant and tangent lines of a circle, finding lengths of segments, arcs, and various degrees of minor and major arc of a circle. We established an overview of formulas and techniques to devise the best way to solve problems and focused on what rules allowed such assumptions to deduce the correct calculation."
"I helped the student complete a few problems from the geometry group project, which she was struggling with. It seems that she really dislikes the current curriculum, but otherwise, she seems to be fairly solid in most geometry based issues. We didn't get into much because the few problems we went over were the only things she wanted help on."
