Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on the student's assignment for science class, a dichotomous key and biological classification taxa. Using the student's class materials, we completed the assignment and spent some extra time covering concepts and vocabulary, to make sure that the student was understanding the material. We talked about organization, which is a problem for the student, and I set up an app on his phone to remind him to bring his materials home when he leaves school. After meeting the student, I have some ideas about how to cover his topics and encourage time management for our next meeting."
"We covered sound, Doppler Effect, interference, harmonics and behavior of waves in strings and tubes. Our sessions mostly revolve around conceptual discussions with some examples using math, and she says it works well for her."
"Tonight we talked about rotational kinematics. We tried to focus on specific problems at the end. We went over general strategies which can be applied to all problems and then spent the majority of the time focusing on torque and moment of inertia."
"The student and I went over a packet that covered protist and plant biology. Then on Sunday, we continued to review the packet and answer some of the questions. She has a test on Monday on the material we covered in the past two sessions."
"Today we switched gears and studied biology which the student found interesting. Specifically we studied genetics, Punnett squares, alleles and inheritance. We talked about blood types and how they are inherited and how they work with blood transfusions. We also went over vaccines and herd immunity, and how they work and why it's important today. She was very enthusiastic and a great listener to the topics and asked questions freely and wasn't shy about telling me what she wished to me expand on. She is going to watch some videos on the topic on her own time and we will pick up genetics next."
"This was our final meeting before his exam. We went over any last questions the student had to address. He is ready and he has improved a lot. His new critical reasoning skills should help him achieve a higher score on this exam and I am expecting good news."
