Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished chapter 4, then covered chapter 5, which was about how to load pictures as backgrounds. Next session will be chapter 6. We are going to play next Tuesday by ear, since that is the day before her school starts."
"Covered arrays and menu-based application interfaces and discussed a relevant project in the student's course."
"First, I showed the student he needed to fix his list of primes, which had a couple problems. He was generating the first five prime factors of the input number, which was logically incorrect, as he was instructed to generated the first five prime number beginning with the input number. Once it became clear that we didn't actually need to check the factors of the input number, it became clear that he had one more method than was necessary. We cleaned it up, changed the input type from one ArrayList of factors to two integers (the first number, and the number of primes you want to find). We also chose to keep our method call static, generating and printing our primes in the same method call, because there was no need for long-term storage of the primes, and therefore creating an object instead of referencing the class statically would have been unwarranted. We then went over his review packet, which didn't give him too much trouble, but he would do well to keep a few things in mind: how to use .get, .set, .remove in ArrayLists, the difference between arrays and ArrayLists, the necessity of assigning ArrayLists a type, and the difference between the "first, second, or third element," and "index one, two, and three" (which would be the second, third, and fourth elements, respectively)."
