"The student and I looked at a few student-produced response questions from Practice Test 1. Then we focused on the Writing Section's essay. We read through three sample essays in the book, and discussed the merits that warranted scores of six. Then we looked at several prompts and brainstormed responses, beginning with a settled position, and following with examples from literature, current events, and personal life. She did not study under an American curriculum from the start, so we talked about strategies to overcome this. She should consider examples from Shakespeare--as universal as anything--or European history if such parallels arise. Also, personal experience will work. Ultimately, her understanding of the structure of the essay, and her range of experience, will allow her to perform well on the exam. Working with the student was a pleasure I looked forward to every week. I hope she gets to attend a California university of her choosing."
"I went over the student's homework with her and we went over the problems she had questions on. We did math, reading comprehension, and writing questions. I have her homework for next week."
"The student and I reviewed the practice test that he completed over the weekend. I recommended that he definitely review his answers after finishing each section. Next time, we plan to go through the more advanced types of problems in each section."
