Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, we focused on the student's assignment of writing a thesis paper on Of Mice and Men. Prior to the session, he had completed a brainstorm outline for his paper and began to work on a thesis in class. In this session, we went through what a thesis is meant to do within a paper, as well as the importance of an outline. We organized and outlined his brainstorming ideas. We also worked on making his thesis more concise and clear and worked and completed his introduction and first supporting paragraph. He is doing well but has to work on outlining and focus more on the main points he would like to get across."
"During today's session, the student and I talked about tips to help her write more quickly for the Foreign Service Officer Test. We discussed the importance of taking a few minutes to plan and outline the essay, especially the main thesis and supporting points with evidence. We talked about how important this step is, as it saves you time and effort that may have been used for further brainstorming once you actually begin writing the essay. We also talked about using clear and direct sentences, and linking every point back to your main argument. She did one practice prompt while we were together and utilized these techniques. We also reviewed a prompt that she had done on her own. She plans to continue her practice by using old prompts and building upon her goal of writing more quickly and producing more written content in the weeks leading up to the test."
"I helped the student think through and outline her paper on Night, A Separate Peace, and Catcher in the Rye."
