Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was the student last session before her test date. We focused mainly on the critical reading section, at her request. In particular, we reviewed the value of reading the questions briefly before reading the passages, so as to be able to read the passages with more focus; strategies to avoid having to re-read sections of the passage multiple times, such as drawing a vertical line or bracket next to any sections that more than one question asks about specifically; and evaluating the specific line(s) referenced by a question within the larger context of the paragraph or passage when necessary. We also reviewed some vocabulary and sentence-completion strategies. She seems very-well prepared for her test date and I'm confident that she'll be able to excel on her exam. It's been a pleasure working with her."
"We worked on the writing session, focusing on the essay portion today. We started by having the student write a sample essay under college entrance exam conditions to see where her strengths are. She is a strong writer. We brainstormed more specific examples she could have used in her essay, and then outlined arguments and examples for other sample essay questions provided in the book. We spent most of the time on the essay, and discussed other essay-writing strategies, but we finished with some brief review of the multiple choice section of the writing session and she did well."
"The student and I reviewed for her college entrance exams. We went over a few sections from test 1 in the official book. Some topics we worked on were geometry (special triangles 90-45-45), percentages and ratios, Venn diagrams and writing algebraic equalities."
