Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I started our session by working through the midterm quiz for her linguistics course. We then turned our attention to completing the draft version of her Field Study Notebook, which we did complete and turn in. Finally we completed the section activity due on Friday, which finished up all of the work she would need to complete this week."
"Today we worked on more examples from her textbook. The student is developing her deduction skills and she's showing strong improvement. We're still working on expanding her repertoire for identifying all possible factors for explaining underlying variation. She's going to continue working on problems in her downtime and practice the ideas we came up with in this session."
"The student had a project in which she had to create 5 slides and write a creative story. She needed help correcting the grammar in her story. She was given a vocabulary list in which she had to use 20 words in the story. Everything had to be in present tense, and she was not allowed to use a dictionary (forcing her to use the words that she learned naturally). The vocabulary covered a variety of topics, not limiting to one specific topic. I kept an eye on the student's work, not giving her the answers directly, but rather challenging her when she made a mistake to help her understand her own mistakes. I then edited her work after this whole process was complete. At the end of the session, we did extra work by making a role-play conversation using the vocabulary sheet she worked with, encouraging her to speak in Spanish and preparing her for her oral exam which is to come this Friday. The student is doing well, feels confident, and has been getting good grades in her class. I am very happy with her progress."
