Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"My second tutoring session with the student went well. We focused on reviewing the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning questions on her test. She answered most of the questions in each section correctly. We discussed strategies for answering Reading Comprehension, Text Completion, and Sentence Equivalence questions, including summarizing paragraphs, eliminating answer choices on paper, and writing down unfamiliar words to look up later."
"Our session proceeded excellently. The student was very forthcoming about his strengths and weaknesses, and I've got a clear direction to move forward. Much of what I would naturally begin with teaching applies to novices, where he has seen the actual test three times, and doesn't need that kind of training, but we do have here several categories to improve."
"The student and I worked through a math practice section. She is improving in her methods and feels more confident on this section in general. We then did some practice verbal reasoning questions. Finally, I also graded a practice essay she completed."
"Test math: quadratic equations, factoring, exponents, statistics (mean, median), Venn diagrams, equation & slope of a line, area & volume of a cylinder. He knows the subject matter pretty well."
"The student and I worked on both the quantitative (comparison) and verbal (sentence equivalence) portions of the test today. We also talked about some general test-taking strategies. She did a great job! I can tell that vocabulary is going to be a hot topic for us, so she has some recommended exercises to help in that area specifically. Well done!"
"Today the student and I hit Logic Games hard, working on the 'robotic' skill of plugging elements into a sketch, over and over, as fast as possible. He needs to develop comfort with this skill so that it becomes automatic, as he's losing a lot of time and points to insufficient sketches."
