Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the rest of Act III in Twelfth Night. The student submitted a take home test on Act I and then we reviewed more Spanish (listening comprehension, affirmatives/negatives, querer, more er/ir preterite)."
"The student and I started to review topics for his exam on Thursday. He seems to be understanding the information really well without having to look at his notes. There is still some work to be done as far as him studying individually, but he his making some significant progress. A prior engagement he had cut our session a bit short, but we will make up the time at our next session."
"The student and I met at Starbucks near the university. We studied the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, and tried to understand it intuitively. Then we solved some problems involving FTC. He is able to implement the idea, but needs some practice involving Chain Rule of differentiation. I emailed him some problems that combine using Chain Rule with FTC."
"One student and I went over the general format of the test. She is very good on the reading comprehension; at most, she will need some vocabulary work. We will have to spend a lot of time on clocks and coins.
The other student is actually doing really well with the test. The problem is that the test does cover concepts that he hasn't gone over yet, especially in math. Also, in the synonyms section, he either knows them really well or doesn't know them at all."

"The student and I covered his factoring and polynomial homework for the upcoming week today. We started off with his current homework, in which he has to factor polynomials, identify their greatest common factor (GCF) and least common multiple (LCM). He does well at factoring and is very confident in it. Aside from a few simple mathematical errors, he is doing very well with the material. He continues to have a strong understanding of how to factor out equations. We went over double roots and multiple roots and he is able to identify them. Later in the week he has some word problems involving polynomials and factoring that may be more difficult for him. Some of these involve physics equations that may be more difficult."
"It was nice to see the student after spring break! We worked on her math homework over polygons and their degrees. It seemed to be an easy chapter for her once we went through the intuition behind it. I also tried to teach her the importance of assumptions in math today. It seems like she is becoming more comfortable around me. I am glad about that because now it should be easier for her to tell me what she is struggling with and ask questions. We will not have another session for a bit because she has spring break next week, but we should be starting up again on 3/18."
"Review practice writing sections, discuss issues of subjectverb agreement and comparisons. Worked with transition words, and issues of wordiness in both the sentence improvement and paragraph improvement questions."
"Worked on three proofs of rectangles: opposite sides are parallel, opposite sides have same distance, midpoints of diagonals are the same. Taught the three formulas to use: slope, distance, and midpoint."
"The student and I reviewed for her upcoming midterm by going through a packet she received. We went over descriptive statistics, z scores, density curves, and discrete and random variables."
"We covered lesson 10 today. Specifically, we covered vocabularies related to hobbies. The student's ability to analyze sentence structures has greatly improved. I suggested she work on her fourth tone to make it more natural sounding. She will be finishing up the exercises of lesson 10 at home and we'll go over that next week."
"For the first 3 hours, the student and I reviewed confidence intervals and linear regression models, and covered the principles of and some examples of decision trees. For next week, he will work on practice problems from all of the topic areas and we will work on the subjects that need to most review.
For the next 2 hours, the second student and I reviewed calculations with zscores, and began practicing confidence intervals and linear regressions. Next time, we will cover decision trees and begin reviewing all topics for the exam."

"Learned new French verbs "manger" to eat and reviewed new verbs given in class with vocabulary lessons on how to use them practically. Discussed giving the two students separate lessons since they are better at different parts of the language."
