Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was working with basic rotational kinematics, which did not leave a lot of variation to put into problems. But we put in some variation by using rotational kinematics in conjunction with linear kinematics and the relationship between linear and angular quantities. Once we took a few steps into problems she was able to see her way through more clearly. I think we will make more progress when she gets a little more experience in class and defines the parameters of how the class wants to deal with these topics."
"I helped the student review chapter 7 in his AP review book. He is making progress at reviewing previous material, but I suggested he work more on the practice problems from the study book. We also spent time reviewing his current chapter on chemical kinetics."
"The student is extremely bright and we worked quickly through this session. We covered Chapter 1 of the Bio book, and he seemed to be very prepared. We covered content, and filled in a few gaps for him, and discussed test taking strategies while he did the questions at the end. I left him to finish the last 4 questions and to make sure he understands the key terms for the beginning of next lesson."
"We continued working on how to answer different types of free response problems. I think this session answered a lot of the student's questions as far as the experiment problems go. I have high hopes for her!"
"Today we covered hybrid orbitals, the meaning of Ka and how to calculate variables in a buffer system. The student has a great attitude and has a good grasp on many of the concepts. He took a practice test and did very well so he is on the right track to getting a good score on his AP exam. He is going to practice acid base on his own and then we will meet again to go over some of the key concepts and answer any questions he may have."
"In preparation for the AP exam, the student and I looked at the old AP test free response questions. We got through most of the questions on the exam, and she did well, with a few minor errors. However, these little mistakes would have cost her points on the real exam, as they would have led to incorrect calculations. As we do more, I will emphasize what tricks to look out for."
