Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student deserves a lot of credit for doing the work to make great improvement in her ability to do the verb conjugations from memory. I was very pleased to hear that she earned a "B" on the last test and that she is holding close to a "B" in the course for the quarter. Today, we continued to work on the areas that she saw points being taken off for on her last test, in particular for the use or lack of application of the "tilde" (or accent mark). We did an extensive review of rules for applying the "tilde" and did close to twenty examples to test her retention of the review and reinforce the rules by doing. We then went on to do some more practice with translation exercises, using irregular verbs in almost all of the tenses (present, preterite, imperfect, future, conditional, present subjunctive). I was thrilled to see that she had her best tutoring session yet in terms of being able to execute this task with accuracy and precision in the verb conjugation."
"My first session with the student went well. I met him and his parents and we discussed what his short term and long term goals were. Student said his goals were to pass this class with the highest grade possible, but also to better communicate and understand Spanish so that he could ultimately become a fluent speaker. I assessed him with a few Spanish review questions. He showed a good understanding of the level three concepts, but was hesitant and unsure when speaking or answering questions. I realized he needed to be re-assured when his answers were right, which I was pleasantly surprised was most of the time. I ended the session by reviewing and explaining the topics from his homework assignment, and he gave me a copy of his syllabus and the names of the books he was going to use for his class."
"We went over pages 6-11 in his textbook. It covered the geographical regions of Spain and a little bit of Spanish history in the middle ages and up to the unification of Spain with Ferdinand and Isabella."
