Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered inductive reasoning and discussed how it is based on pattern recognition of observed events. Did some examples from the text and then did some of the homework problems and made sure he understood concept. Then, we talked about the principles of logic and truth values. Made sure all the homework was done and understood how to apply truth values and conjunctions and disjunctions. Next, we covered conditionals and related conditionals (converse, inverse, contrapositive). Finally previewed deductive reasoning. Student felt very confident with the content covered and I believe he has a solid understanding. Student got a 95% on his chapter 1 test that we studied for last week. I would like to see student engage in more active note taking, especially when we start covering more concepts."
"We worked together to complete a biology packet, focusing on extracting information from the chapter. After that, we turned to geometry, as the student has a quiz this upcoming Monday, September 8th. I quizzed him on a few principles of the work we have done and he seems to grasp the geometry concepts quite well. However, we agreed that he needs to focus on getting his algebra up to the same level as it could potentially slow down quiz taking and not allow him to properly demonstrate his mastery of geometry."
"Today we went over an online quiz in geometry which covered the previous two sections. He did well. He got a 90% on a quiz that he took in the class."
"We worked on some basic proofs for angles and lines today, along with bi conditional/conditional statements. The student has a very clear understanding of bi conditional/conditional statements. I feel she will do great on her quiz this week."
"The student just had his first week of school. He didn't have any homework so we went over a workbook his mom found online which gave us the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned from the previous sessions. We went over the first two sessions of chapter 1; The segment addition theorem."
"Today's session with the student went very well. We worked on reviewing geometry for his fall class, and covered chapter four in his book. He did really well and remembered most of what we went over during the summer. No concerns."
"This was my first time meeting her and I was happy to find she is a bright student. She had a few questions before her next test so we went over the material. She also wanted to review some of the older material that her last test had been on. She seems confident on all of the material we covered and I wish her the best on her next exam."
"He and I worked on factoring quadratic expressions and he understands the correct thought process. Later, we discussed the experimental design of his upcoming science fair project and it sounds very promising. He has to improve his self-motivation in order to reach his long-term goals. I have an excellent book recommendation for his parents to help him form better habits as both a student and young adult."
"Both students had geometry homework that covered angles, lines, rays, the distance formula, and shapes. We covered material that was due Wednesday through to next week. The material was not difficult and both were very good at it. At this point, both of them are on top of their notes and classes."
"We did homework in preparation for a quiz on Tuesday. The hw dealt with planar and solid areas and volumes, geometric shapes and their names. Also covered bases, faces, vertices and edges of solid shapes. There were a few algebraic angle problems at the last."
