Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over different IPv4 Techniques and further into IPv6 in details. We also discussed hexadecimal numbering systems. The student was motivated and eager to cover the topic. He was catching up with the hextech systems of IP address. We will continue our discussion in IPv6 in the next session."
"The student is doing well in her course. We went over her last assignment and the issues that it had. We discussed the issues. We talked about how doing pseudocode before an assignment is a good way to get a better understanding of the assignment. We went over classes today and created a fake Ice Cream class to get the hang of classes and how they work. We pseudocoded her QuickPick class for her next assignment. We will be meeting again on Tuesday."
"The student was working on figuring out how to make pie graphs when I arrived. I answered all of her questions and showed her how to change the visual format of the chart, open and close the data editor, and how to change chart types for existing data. Then we reviewed text alignment, Greek symbols, equations, and tables. We finished out by creating a single slide with text, a table of equations, and a graph made from the data in the table to bring everything together and introduce adding extra chart elements beyond the scope of the template. She continues to demonstrate high retention and ambition to practice the material she's learned. There are very few new techniques left to teach her regarding the scope she defined in our first session (PowerPoint presentations with Excel and Word elements). I plan our next session to serve as review and summary for all of the pieces that we have completed and can now integrate together into a rich presentation."
"W e have covered the basics of PicoBot, and set up the build environment. The student was struggling with setting this up herself, and needed help on how to use a Linux terminal, running an editor (gedit), and running/ checking her assignments with the Python scripts. Since this was not a Python programming course, I had to install her VM myself and run it. We have also learned some basic Linux commands (ls, cd, wget), and told her it was essential. I have also provided some help links to study for her, and told her to email me if she had any questions."
"The student and I discussed several formula applications. Specifically, we reviewed count-up timers that reference the current day, as well as if/then statements that return either a formula output, or a user specified value."
"Today, the student and I began examining another practice final for his computer class. We focused primarily on the subjects of python and algorithmic thinking, working through a couple of problems that demonstrate the importance of being able to work through a program's processes in your head prior to attempting a code solution. The student performed very well and was receptive of the information I was presenting. He asked questions and was engaged during our whole session. I left him with a call to continue looking through his course materials for any specific questions he had and a general reassurance of ability in preparation for his exam on Tuesday. We meet tomorrow at the same time."
