Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session, we continued working on translation, as the student hadn't covered any new grammar in class. We broke down the sentences one by one and translated, covering grammatical issues as they came up. She is getting better at identifying ablative absolutes when they show up, with repeated practice."
"We began the session by working through the translation sentence from several earlier stories. As we worked through each sentence, I helped the students to see what they needed to add to their approaches to parsing the general syntax/grammar as well as the various inflections with which they were having challenges. After this, we addressed the new content on the 5th declension and the new vocabulary. We completed the session by working on the beginning of the new chapter's exercises."
"Reviewed case endings, verb forms, and identifying parts of speech. The student should continue reviewing the basics each day."
"The student read through a story concentrating on the future and perfect tenses. I also drilled him on noun cases throughout the story."
"Today the student and I studied for his test on the subjective mood, and more specifically, indirect questions. We discussed examples and went over sequence of tenses and q-words. Good job today."
"The student shared with me that he followed my advice and went back to his English teacher to get more guidance on how to do his project on the play, Inherit the Wind. I had suggested that he do a project on the blacklisting that went on in America during the setting of the play. His teacher liked the idea and suggested that he write make believe letters between families living during this time. He read these to me, and I thought that they were convincing; I told him that I thought his presentation tomorrow would go well. We used the remainder of the time to begin reviewing for his semester Latin exam that he will take in two weeks. We were able to review two chapters. He had trouble finding his perfect stem at first, but seemed to understand this concept after practice. I asked him to make copies of his chapter tests and send me so that I can go over things he had trouble answering."
