Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session first was with Student 1. I did some drawings with her to practice saying body parts and colors, and I drew 2 cartoons for her to learn two new vocab words. They were: big elephant and small cow. After drawing, we played games and the winds I brought. We also rehearsed her dance; most of time I was speaking Chinese. Then with Student 2, I first made a birthday card and drawing for his dad. While drawing, we practiced writing his name in Chinese and writing his dad's age. We also learned how to say and write the word: daddy. We then played the Chinese game I brought. After the desk work, we started to play games. We played ball and did some physical exercises, including karate and lifting. During the playing, I spoke Chinese most of the time."
"We reviewed some more travel words and phrases and also the basic present tense conjugation. The student did excellent and remembered learning some of the basics. He did the assigned quizzes really well and progressed well."
"Today was our first meeting. We discussed the goals, objectives, and expectations that we have for the sessions. We've decided to focus on reading and speaking, but also make the learning interactive through games, videos, etc. The student also shared her school material that we will focus on. I'm excited to work with her."
"The student and I focused on studying for his Spanish quiz: reviewing old worksheets and taking a practice quiz. He seems to understand the material pretty well, though he should review again before taking the quiz. He finished an English assignment and we had a little time to review for his World History exam on Friday as well."
"Today we began by practicing basic conversation and pronunciation. We moved into sentence completion and writing skills followed by practicing questions from the citizenship exam. The student is improving with citizenship questions, however, she continues to have some trouble with telling coherent stories in English. After some prompting and repetition she is able to get her meaning across. We will continue to work on this."
"Today we went over the alphabet, colors, days of the week, some animals, numbers, and weather. The students did really well learning the colors, and pronouncing the alphabet. They also stayed pretty focused during most of the session, which was great. Today was mostly getting acquainted and getting a feel for what kinds of activities work best to keep them engaged, so next time I'll be sure to bring lots of games and interactive activities. We'll build on what we learned in this session, and start to talk about how to express emotion (como estas, estoy...) next time."
