Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student improved significantly over simply one day and was enthusiastic about the session. Her reading got faster and she carried over concepts between problems. I'm looking forward to working with her again tonight."
"Math: Reviewed homework on Fractions and Place Value. The student had to identify Equal Parts of a whole and write the expanded form in standard form. Then I had her do a 2nd grade math practice test to review some concepts of word problems. She had a little difficulty so I had to reteach the meaning of some math vocabulary, such as - How much more indicates that the math operation to use is subtraction. She was receptive and was able to complete the problems. Reading: I checked her spelling homework, and had her read aloud the article for her comprehension and then answer the questions. Which she completed 100% correctly."
"Today the student and I worked on several academic areas that I feel he is needing extra effort with. We went over the "tutors ten" work that I left with him to work on each day (this is a variety of worksheets with specific tasks for him to work on). He does the work asked of him and he stays focused during our sessions. We will be working on sentence structure and spelling of sight words for 2nd grade. He enjoys the math and word games we play together. I feel that he and I are a good team."
"During today's session we focused on reading comprehension and fluency. In addition, we also reviewed word problems and basic math."
"The student and I worked through an article provided from class on wind power. We first read through the article, then we defined the words that were highlighted. He has improved a lot, but he still needs a bit of work in defining words in context. We also went through and answered all the questions in the article. Finally, we read a few chapters of a "Magic Tree House" book for fun!"
"We covered a writing style called "writing to inform" in Spanish. We covered brainstorm of a title, and we covered opening sentence. In our next session we will continue the composition. These skills are very high for a second grader and the student is keeping up with it like a champion. He is a fast learner and always has a positive attitude about the session."
