Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has moved on a new topic in class: exponents. We talked about the properties of exponents and worked through two practice sheets she had from class. We discussed real-world applications of using exponents (scientific notation) and worked through several more practice problems. She seems to be doing fairly well with this topic, but she continues to slip up on working with negative numbers. I encouraged her to finish the negatives practice problems before we meet again. She shared that she was able to retake her quiz on slopes she had taken previously and she thinks she did well on it."
"The student had to prepare for a biology quiz, so we spent our time reviewing her material. The area of focus was genetics and cell division. We practiced defining terms and made flash cards to help with this. We also drew a few diagrams to detail the ways in which sets of concepts are related to each other. The student still has some work to do for this quiz, but she seemed to pickup the material relatively quickly. I wish her luck on her quiz!"
"The student and I reviewed for his upcoming test on sine and cosine functions and their uses. We had touched on the majority of this material before, but he wanted to practice more, as he was unsure about his test. He worked every example I gave him confidently, always asking questions if he was unsure on something. I fully expect him to do well on his exam."
"The student and I reviewed material for her trigonometry exam next Wednesday. We began by "solving" triangles and doing word problems about angles of elevation and depression. I recommend that the student find more practice word problems on this topic. We also did many practice problems with special right triangles (30-60-90 and 45-45-90). The student should practice drawing "parent triangles" every day between now and her exam. She was a lot more confident with the material today compared with the last time we met, and I'm sure she will do very well on her upcoming exam."
"The student and I worked on her first homework set. This required review of concepts such as imaginary numbers, vector addition, and inverse variation. We also looked at new content with distance, rate, and time equations. She did a great job today with picking up quickly on old concepts and learning the new ones - we both felt it was a very productive session!"
"The student completed her second course out of 16, Introduction to Language Arts. The course centered around reading comprehension passages and inferring of text. We also worked on subject-verb agreement and other punctuation rules. She worked on the five assignments and she completed the end-of-course assessment. She was successful in our session today."
