Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had a substantial amount of homework, much of which was to study vocabulary words for world cultures and for English. During our session, we studied for her upcoming test in world cultures and for her final Chemistry test. She practiced the first 3 skills for world cultures, and studied terms. She also completed the first 2 pages of her chemistry study guide. She is working hard, and has completed the homework I have set for the past two sessions. Great job!"
"This session I helped the student prepare for her final by going over a practice multiple test exam, and doing outlines for the essays she will be writing in class. While there are some problems with essay organization, the student recalls all facts well and has good groundwork for her essays. No new grades. I feel very positive about her chances on the final. No additional practice or concerns"
"The student started the paper and is now a few pages in. I provided advice on certain passages. Student declined assistance for a discussion response post. We will meet one or two times more to edit the paper and work on studying for the final."
"The student has been assigned an extra credit essay on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He needs to write a research paper explaining why the U.S. should or should not have used the atom bomb. We read the textbook and made a pro/con chart. I helped supplement the textbook with internet research and a PowerPoint on WWII. Based on the research, he chose which side to argue. I then helped him with an outline and with the first few paragraphs. The essay is not due until after our next session, so he will continue working on it and I will review next week. He got a B on his last test."
"We covered related WWII topics: the Japanese home front and meetings between the Big Three. I didn't see any scores, but he did say that since we have been working together his test grades have come up by about 20 percent. The student and I worked on finding main ideas within paragraphs and learning how to condense answers down. I came back the next day to continue studying with him for an upcoming test. I have no concerns."
"I worked with the student tonight on map reading and European historical geography. He has a good grasp of overall locations of European countries and historical events. He still needs to slow down a bit. We will continue to work on this. Next week we'll review the 18th-20th centuries."
