Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for his English quiz covering prepositions and adverbs. He seemed worried but he was able to complete all of the practice questions that I gave him. In addition, we worked on the second paragraph of his Chains essay. His writing has definitely improved. I asked him to summarize a few chapters of his book for next week so that we can write a short essay."
"We worked on grammar today. She has a test on Friday that she was worried about. We reviewed in the text book and took 2-column notes. She then practiced using worksheets. She will have more time in class and on her own to study what she needs to in preparation for Friday's test."
"We did an English assignment on absolutes. I then helped him with a forensics assignment where he had to answer questions based on a movie. I tried to show him how to listen for key words in the movie in order to answer the questions. I also started to make a Macbeth quiz so that to help review for his quiz on Friday."
"The student and I worked on a summary paragraph for English. We annotated two database articles, and outlined the work needed for the paragraph. He is catching on to the concept that good planning makes for easy writing. He won't regret it!"
"For this session, the student and I worked on her online classwork. We completed several lessons for her English sections. I explained material that she did not quite understand, and then she completed a quiz for each relevant section. After English, we discussed a History section so that she could take a break. For the History section, we watched videos about the Industrial Revolution. At the end of the session, I reminded her about some of the writing assignments that she needed to complete for her online courses."
"We spent some time discussing the students' online curriculum. In regards to academics at the school, we specifically focused on their world history course. Currently they both have history papers they need to write on The Crusades. We talked about materials they have collected for the paper so far and note taking systems. I then had them both pick out one article and they took notes on it. I thought this was a way for them to best process the material. We talked considerably about what they knew about the Crusades. Next, we will continue to work on organizing and then outlining their papers."
