Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met up again and continued our work on scientific notation and math vocabulary. We also started estimation and equation writing. Lastly, we played a couple games of chess. Already in the past couple of sessions we've met he's shown a lot of improvement. "
"We began this session with a review of the math questions I asked the student to complete on her own. She did very well and required little review. For verbal review, she still struggled with her vocabulary so we went over new vocabulary words. I asked her to complete some verbal analogies at home but prior to doing them, she had to look up the words. This is to see whether it is simply the vocabulary that she is struggling with or whether the analogies are also proving difficult for her. We ended with timed reading exercises that focused on inference. We went over each passage and I asked her to break the passage down to make sure she was interpreting them correctly. This type of reading question seems to challenge her."
"The student and I worked on his homework involving logistic and logarithmic functions, and then we focused on problems involving properties of logarithms and solving logarithmic equations. He improved a lot with practice."
"We went over the student's test review covering finding domain and range and graphing piecewise functions. We also covered translations. The student has a firm grasp on the material."
"During the session with the student we covered the fundamentals of declaring variables, using variables and if statement logic. We also touched on the subjects of capitalization and code formatting. We created several example programs that utilized these concepts."
"This week, the student worked on her homework, which introduced her to the concepts of class unit testing, and file operations. The homework was fairly straightforward, but she hadn't been introduced to the concepts yet, so I explained the concepts more in-depth, and she played around with the code to reinforce the learning."
