Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I'm excited to keep up our momentum when we get back - the student is developing into a fine writer."
"During this session, I introduced the student to the structure of essay writing. We went over different essays you can write (persuasive, descriptive, narrative, compare and contrast, etc.). We mainly focused on persuasive essay writing. I explained to her that an essay paragraph is made up of a beginning (thesis), middle, and conclusion sentences. I did an example for her and then helped her work through a couple more. We also covered the importance of brainstorming and making an outline before going straight to writing the essay. I know she needs more practice writing conclusion sentences. I plan on bringing a lot of samples with me next time, so she feels more comfortable identifying them. Overall, I think she did well writing for the first time."
"The student and I worked on coordinating adjective commas and introductory commas in his writing. We took notes on the concepts, did a practice set together, and then he wrote his own examples. I assigned him a worksheet for homework to help him cement those skills in his mind."
