Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
" Absolute value function graph. Lines: graphing, forming equations, slope, yint, etc.
No scores/grades to note progress. Took a test a couple of weeks ago, but it hasn't been returned yet.
She has an extra credit project over lines to work on"
"We went over her Chemistry homework on changing rates. She took notes about prefixes and how to use them, and she was very good at understanding where the units should go. We then reviewed for her Algebra test on word problems. We talked about translating sentences into equations, and practiced until she got it. We practiced setting up systems of equations involving cost."
"We specifically covered the definitions and properties of the limits of functions along with the idea of continuity. We did not get to cover any extra problems because we mainly focused on his understanding of the concepts. Therefore, throughout the tutoring session, we mainly went over the entire chapter and addressed any important concepts that we came across. He showed progress in the understanding of the material by the end of the session. I also gave him tips on how to approach problems and concepts as well."
"A pretest was administered. We went over long multiplication. The student was able grasp the algorithm with out any problems. I left a problem set for him to complete by Monday. I have no concerns for this session."
"The student and I went over how to work with fractions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) today. She also learned about finding common denominators, working with improper fractions, and working with mixed numbers. She is going to take the exam for chapter 3, and then the pretest for chapter 4."
"Today we started work on graphing. The student understands the basics of graphing very well. We also got to recognizing the equations of certain shapes, and she did well recognizing the patterns, so I think she will be fine with graphing."
"We worked on the student's practice homework assignment, which was a continuation of the concept of factoring polynomials. He appears to understand the material more as we go through it together, and I continue to be pleased with his progress. I will be working this weekend to create some extra practice sheets for him covering the multiplication and factoring that are so important to his success in this subject. His first extra practice assignment will be given Tuesday after our next session."
"The student and I worked on multiplying and dividing fraction word problems. He grasped the concept well and was able to figure out how to solve the problem easily! We also went through his multiplication tables. Great session!"
"We went over the student's last test. He wanted some help with proving the convergence of monotomic sequences. I helped him get started by showing him the assumptions necessary to start them. I gave him some advice on how to do them for his homework as well."
"Today we finished reviewing all of the topics covered previously for the student's exam. Specifically, we reviewed linear inequalities, linear programming (optimization), and linear algebra (setting up and reducing augmented matrices). After reviewing previous notes, she had a strong grasp of the concepts and was able to complete practice problems without any major issues. Based on her understanding of the topics at this point, she is in a good position for the exam next week."
"We went through differentiation and limits today. She knows the basic derivatives and wanted some help with the chain rule. We went through examples of the multiplication and quotient rule. She will review all the forms of basic integration and derivatives."
"The student and I worked on a few pages from her math workbook. We reviewed rounding, and then moved on to long division. She said that long division was a concept they hadn't reviewed in class yet so I wanted to get a head start on it, as long division can be challenging. She did well and we will reinforce it with more practice the next session. She will keep practicing her multiplication tables in the mean time. I told her to practice them every day to keep her skills up."
