Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session we continued studying for her test by reviewing material from previous sessions, and going over packets to complete practice problems. Topics covered were reactions for oxidations/reductions, carbonyls to alcohols, PCC/Jones Reagents, and adding carbon chains to carbonyl groups. Practice problems consisted of predicting products of these reactions as well as other topics such as resonance, allylic compounds, and radical stability."
"The student and I reviewed most of the content for genetics in the biological sciences section. She had just finished taking a genetics course so the review was fairly quick and easy, though she did have some questions about the level of detail that was required for the test. We did some practice questions at the end of the chapters before reviewing some of the methods in organic chemistry for classifying compounds. We spent some time discussing fundamentals before actually reviewing the material. I think at this point she is on track to finish a second pass at all the content before her exam."
"Today we reviewed the cardiovascular system and went over anatomy. The student learned how to trace blood flow through the heart. We discussed physiological and anatomical differences in blood vessels, basic nature of fluid flow, and mnemonics, and tested him with content questions. We reviewed the respiratory system; Anatomy and physiology, and practiced interpreting hemoglobin dissociation curves."
"Since the last time we met, the student took another practice exam. Her score improved to a 31! Today we met and again completed practice problems for Physics, biology, and general chemistry. Our plan next week is to review content and problems covering topics she has been struggling with."
"Reviewed the latest practice MCAT that the student took. Focused primarily on the verbal reasoning section, which she is still struggling a bit with, while her scores on the physical sciences and biological sciences improved significantly from the first test. We went over some strategies that she could use for the verbal section, like trying to read quickly without getting too bogged down in details, trying to answer the questions before looking at the answer choices, and not choosing answers without a clear rationale for why it's correct."
"We went over general chemistry II concepts and reviewed the kidney. We went over thermodynamics, kinetics, polarity, solubility, and equilibrium. We then did relevant practice passages. The student did a great job!"
