Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered algebraic equations involving input/output graphs/word problems. Also covered exponents and other individual questions from homework assignments that she did not understand. The student was very attentive during the session and shows to have good basic concepts in math that she can use to build on."
"In today's session we reviewed lessons 4.1 through 4.3 in the student's math lessons. We reviewed greatest common factor, prime/composite numbers, and factorization. I did a review of each lesson and will continue to review this week with him to ensure comprehension."
"The student has a unit test on Friday, so we spent time going over his practice packet and reviewing the ones he had left blank and/or had questions about. He has shown a lot of progress in terms of showing his work, so now I'm having him practice (1) labeling units for his answers to word problems, (2) circling or boxing his final answer, and (3) sketching diagrams to represent the situation in the problem."
"Both students worked through the study guide provided by their teacher. They both have a firm grasp on identifying the correct operation. Both, however, will benefit from more practice with math facts."
"The student and I went over her topics from the previous week. She had started to learn integration using rectangles and other shapes, and we completed her homework problems from the past few days. She did very well!"
"We worked on a test review focusing on linear equations. We also focused on how to approach different types of problems. We discussed word problem strategy, multiple choice strategy."
"Today we worked on square roots and I had shown the student these in a previous session so she was familiar with them. She did great understanding the square roots and cube roots and how to find the answer. We went through several different solution techniques and she seemed to really understand the branching method for finding the root and straight multiplication for finding the perfect square of perfect cube of a number. This section will require her to memorize some of the numbers because she is not allowed a calculator, so repetition and review with this subject would be good for her."
"Today the student and I worked on his math homework which included measuring angles using a protractor and learning about complementary and supplementary angles. We finished the research for her chlorine project in science and she wrote a draft for her resume. She just needs to complete her final drafts for both of these projects."
"We practiced graphing point-slope and slope-intercept. He needs to keep practicing this before his test. In the morning he will graph all the problems we did, to make sure he is ready for his test. He is good on his other triangle topics, so I know he can do this as well."
"The student has a test tomorrow so we did review problems that his teacher assigned from the text book. We reviewed derivatives of lnx and e^x. We also practiced integrals for 1/x and e^x, which allowed us to review u-substitution. Lastly, we practiced inverse trig integrals."
"Worked a variety of word problems in preparation for an upcoming test. Did a few simple Singapore bar model problems, several Singapore bar model problems that required multiplying each set of bars by other given values, and other assorted problems that did not require bar models to solve. Discussed strategies for checking numerical calculations for arithmetic mistakes."
"The student has a test on Thursday over inequalities so we spent the time reviewing the chapter and studying for the test. She understood how to solve inequalities very well. We also spent some time talking about test taking strategies."
